Nick Stillman is the Deputy Director of the Arts Council of New Orleans and writes regularly for Artforum, Pelican Bomb, East of Borneo, and several other publications. He has written book essays on artists such as Ashley Bickerton, Dan McCarthy, and Katherine Bernhardt, and his 2006 essay “Reena Spaulings: An Art Brand” will be reprinted next year in Whitechapel’s Documents of Contemporary Art book, The Art Market.
Stillman recently edited an oral history on the actress, writer, and brilliant deviant Cookie Mueller that will be published in 2014.
Prior to joining the Arts Council, Stillman was Visiting Critic of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of New Orleans. Before moving to New Orleans from New York, he was managing editor of BOMB magazine.
Between 2006-2007, Stillman curated eight exhibitions at PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York.
