Hinge Pictures: Eight Women Artists Occupy The Third Dimension

On View: May 18th, 2019 - June 16th, 2019

Hinge Pictures: Eight Women Artists Occupy the Third Dimension is an exhibition in eight-parts, a confrontation with the patrimony of European modernism in the practices of eight leading women artists: Sarah Crowner, Julia Dault, Leslie Hewitt, Tomashi Jackson, Erin Shirreff, Ulla von Brandenburg, Adriana Varejão, and Claudia Wieser. Across eight successive galleries, this exhibition presents practices that evolve from the flat plane of the wall to immersive sculptural environments. Staging a performance of material history, spatial occupation, and social positioning, Hinge Pictures: Eight Women Artists Occupy the Third Dimension resuscitates abstract modernist vocabularies, marked by patriarchal and colonial histories, for use in a new feminist formalism.

Identity Measures

On View: August 3rd, 2019- October 5th, 2019 (participating in Blue Star Museums until September 2nd, 2019)

At a time of heightened uncertainty, division, and geopolitical tensions, imagining a world where shared experience and solidarity between differing groups mights exist in productive harmony seems like the stuff of dreamwork. Difference, and what to do with it, remains the most significant question in our era and forest a consideration of the role that identity and its politics play in shaping, transforming, and leveraging difference onto our sense of selfhood and collective belonging. Identity Measures is an Open Call exhibition comprised of local contemporary artists answering these very questions. This exhibition is organized by the Contemporary Arts center and curated by Dr. Jordan Amirkhani.
