KM Dance Project
KM Dance Project is an emerging New Orleans based dance company presenting choreographic works that lie at the intersection of art and social justice. Artistic Director, Kesha McKey, created KM Dance Project in 2013 to establish her voice as a choreographer as well as provide opportunities for other emerging choreographers needing a platform to express ideas and issues that affect and impact marginalized communities. We value the importance of creating dance not just for arts sake, but movement that moves people, creativity that can inform people and art that can change someone’s perspective. As we use our artistic voices to address existing inequities, racial injustices and the senseless acts of violence plaguing our communities, we understand that inside the creative process as well as the audience experience exists the possibility of healing, which can potentially be a catalyst for change.
KM Dance Project aims to present progressive choreography and innovative multi-disciplinary works that lie at the intersection of dance-theatre and social justice. It is our intention to enhance the public’s appreciation of dance rooted in experiences of the African Diaspora, while exposing issues of community responsibility and empowerment.
