Opening Reception

The Contemporary Arts center will host an openining reception for Beyond “Beasts”: The Art of Court 13 and three other new exhibtions. This opening night reception will feature a one-night-only installation on view curbside outside of the CAC on the night of March 8: The Fleet, a mobile art installation of rolling handmade sculptures including The Turk, Wink’s famous truck boat from Beasts of the Southern Wild. FREE Admission.

Court 13 Homecoming Dance

After the opening reception, Court 13’s Homecoming Dance will begin, with live music by Lost Bayou Ramblers; a reading by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lucy Alibar from a new work; and surprise guests. FREE Admission.

Beyond “Beasts”: The Art of Court 13is a group of exhibitions that feature new work by filmmaker Benh Zeitlin and his New Orleans-based Court 13 film collective, which received four major Oscar nominations for their debut feature film, Beasts of the Southern Wild. Original artworks and art installations created by Court 13 expressly for the exhibitions will be on display at the CAC, along with the collective’s early films and materials relating directly to the creation of Beasts of the Southern Wild.
