Pippin Frisbie-Calder’s artistic practice revolves around honoring, protecting, and preserving nature. She acknowledges that part of this preservation effort is simply preserving the memory of some nature that has already become extinct. Her site-specific work Canceled Edition exhibits four hundred hand carved woodblock prints of the now extinct Ivory Billed Woodpecker. This bird once flourished in North America is now extinct because of human activities. Viewers are invited to remove the prints from the wall and reflect on their actions as a participant in this piece designed to promote environmental awareness.
