Jessica Lagunas is a New York-based Guatemalan artist. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the Everhart Museum (PA); Art Museum of the Americas (Washington, D.C.); International Festival of Contemporary Arts–City of Women (Slovenia); Jersey City Museum (NJ); The Bronx Museum of the Arts (NY); among others. Lagunas’ work has been featured in art biennials in Pontevedra (Spain), El Museo del Barrio (NY), Tirana (Albania), Cuenca (Ecuador), Caribbean (Dominican Republic) and Paiz (Guatemala), and she has exhibited both nationally and internationally, in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Lagunas is a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant recipient (2014) and a Bronx Council on the Arts’ BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Grantee (2016). She has received fellowships from the Urban Artist Initiative and the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. She was awarded residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center, New Orleans (2018) and in New York City at El Museo del Barrio, (2016), Wave Hill (2014), The Center for Book Arts (2012), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council at Governors Island (2010), and The Bronx Museum of the Arts’ Artist in the Marketplace (2005-06).
