André Fuqua (b. 1993) was born in St. Louis, MO and raised between there and the Black Belt region of Alabama. His practice is rooted in sculpture, photography, and craft. His work explores ideas surrounding space, visibility, otherness, and power. He has strong interests in symbolism, the built environment, and hidden narratives of the American South. Fuqua is a 2016 graduate alumnus of the Painting and Drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and completed his MS in Civil Engineering at Columbia University in 2018. He has exhibited in many spaces and institutions across the US, in New York, Chicago, and Texas. Fuqua’s practice is currently based in Austin, TX. Learn more at
