The Collaborative Process: From Joan Mitchell to Contemporary Artists is an afternoon of discussions that will explore artistic collaborations: first in relationship to Joan Mitchell's work, then by expanding the conversation to the experiences of artists who are currently collaborating as part of their artistic process.

The two panels will both tackle the questions of what defines collaboration and will look at how collaborations can influence and expand an artist's practice. Both panels are free and open to the public, though reservations are requested. There will be a cocktail reception immediately following the second panel.

Schedule:
12:30 - 3pm Working with Joan
Moderator: Ron Bechet
Panelists: Louise Fishman, Kate Horsfield, Nathan Kernan, and Kenneth Tyler

The first panel, Working with Joan, will bring together four artists whose lives intersected with Joan Mitchell's. Ranging from painter Louise Fishman, to filmmaker Kate Horsfield, to poet Nathan Kernan and master printer Kenneth Tyler. The four panelists all had experiences with Joan Mitchell, either working creatively with her or discussing the collaborative process of working with others.

The panel will provide the audience with an opportunity to gain insight into Joan's creative process, while exploring each artist's own experiences in terms of collaborations.

3:30 - 6pm Working with Others

Moderator: Colleen Asper and Jennifer Dudley
Panelists: Ghada Amer, Neal Ambrose-Smith, Reza Farkhondeh, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith.

The second panel discussion, Working with Others, will include three pairs of artistic collaborators: Ghada Amer & Reza Farkhondeh, Jaune Quick-To-See Smith & Neal Ambrose- Smith, and Ad Hoc Vox, consisting of Colleen Asper & Jennifer Dudley.

The panel will be an opportunity for the artists to share their thoughts on how collaborations have shaped their art and artistic practice. Questions asked will range from: How does collaboration enhance your own practice? What sorts of activities constitute a collaboration? And finally, how can collaboration be encouraged in communities?

6:15 - 7pm Cocktail Reception
