A native New Orleanian, Francesca “Frahn” Koerner received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University and a Master of Fine Arts degree [Summa Cum Laude] from the University of New Orleans, majoring in painting with a minor in photography. Koerner was represented in the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans group exhibitions Digital Louisiana (2002), Entergy Louisiana Open (1997), and Louisiana Purchase (1998) and the Southern Open at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette, LA.
In 2001, Koerner was chosen for the International Contemporary Art Biennale in Florence, Italy, winning 5th place in Painting, and she was selected for the 2004 Artist Exchange Group Show in Innsbruck, Austria. Koerner was awarded a Santa Fe Art Institute Artist Residency, including a Pollock-Krasner grant in 2006, and a LouisianaArtWorks studio residency in 2008–2009. In 2009, she was selected for the University of New Orleans’ exhibition H x W x D–Thirty Years of MFA at UNO. Koerner’s studio was chosen as a 2011–2012 “Satellite Project” for Prospect.2 New Orleans and again for Prospect 3+ in 2014–2015. Employing painting, photography, mixed-media, installation, and video, Koerner’s artwork is idea based. She has taught at Tulane University, LA, and the University of New Orleans, LA.
